Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar

strawberry shortcake.jpg

One of my summer favorite deserts is Strawberry Shortcake. Lets face it is kinda of a summer staple at my house. Easy and cheap to make. It is fun to take my son to pick fresh strawberries then come home and make Strawberry Shortcake.

The ingredients are pretty basic you. You can make your own angel food cake of grab one from the store. I tend to buy since I am not a big fan of running the oven in the summer.

First, you need to prepare your strawberries and reserve 4 strawberries for garnish. Remove stems and cut up remaining strawberries and put in medium bowl. Sprinkle with sugar and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes.

Next, cut cake into 1″ cubes. Combine heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla. Whip until stiff peaks form. Transfer to zippered bag and place in freezer for 15 minutes. Clip corner of bag to allow for piping.

In each jar layer cake, then strawberries, then whip cream and then repeat these layers. Take reserved strawberries and use for garnish on each jar. Enjoy :-)
