We are a busy family when it comes to school nights so I love making quick and easy one skillet meals. Last night we had baseball hitting practice for Kaden at 5 we didn’t make it home until after 7:30 and we were all starving. While Kaden was showering, I made an amazing skillet paste with sausage. I used Hillshire Smoked Sausage from Kroger because it is already cooked and that saved me 10 minutes. Time is of the essence on busy night at my house.
So if you are short on time this Skillet Pasta with Sausage is made in one pan and is ready in no time at all.
The ingredents for skillet paste with sausage is pretty easy and you may already have most of them at your house. You will need olive oil, Hillshise Smoked Sausage, onion, frozen or fresh veggies, chicken broth, milk, dry pasta, parmesan cheese, spinach and of course salt and pepper. One thing I like about this recipe is you can add the veggies of your choice. My family love sweet mini peppers and spinach so that is always what we use. I also added a little left over corn we had from the night before. My brother makes it and buy a bag of frozen mixed veggies for his veggies. I use gluten free pasta, but you can use whatever you have at home. This meal will cost under $10 which is also nice.
Star by chopping up the Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage, onion and mini peppers into bit size pieces. I cut the sausage on an angle and leave out the end pieces.
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage and onion and cook until browned and softened, about 5 minutes. I love using smoked sausage since it is already cooked you just need to heat it all the way through.
Next, you can add in the chicken broth and milk, then stir in the pasta. If you have frozen mixed veggies you can add them now. This is where I added our left over corn. Cover and cook until the pasta is al dente, about 15 minutes.
Spinach is a family favorite of ours and I tend to add it to everything. So when the pasta is al dente toss in a handful of spinach. Aren’t all the colors in the pasta pretty? Having colorful food is a great way to get kids to eat veggies.
Once the pasta is al dente don’t worry if there is extra sauce in the pan it will thicken and soak into the noodles. One great thing about this dish is delicious warmed up when the next day also. You can use two packs of Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage to make sure you have some left over. Hillshire Farm Smoked Sausage is also on sale at Kroger 2 for $5 until April 19th at Kroger while supplies last.
