Let’s get serious for just a moment. We all remember how terrible the Boston Marathon bombing on April 15, 2013 was, right? Well among the many who lost their lives, there was an 8 year old boy named Martin Richard. Martin was not an ordinary boy, he was a sweet, kind, little guy who knew the power of service, and was loved by many. People at his school even called a “bridge builder” because he was able to bring together all sorts of kids. There’s a campaign going around to honor Martin and to continue his belief of bringing people together. This campaign challenges kids, teens, families, and the like to bring people together through service projects and simple acts of kindness. We at Daily Leisures chose to do the DIY Dental Drive.
We love the DIY Dental Drive because it is simple yet powerful, and it does not require much of your time. Having projects like this make it easy for even the busiest or tight budgeted families to still participate! To take part in the DIY Dental Drive, simply use coupons and head to your store to stock up on toothbrushes, toothpaste, and dental floss. The clinic we are helping (Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services) provides health care to those who are in dire need of assistance. If you prepare a simple bag that has one toothbrush, one tube of toothpaste, and one container of dental floss, the clinic will be able to send it home with patients who come for a dental hygiene visit. We ask that you make just ten bags. Assembling the bags will take maybe 10 – 15 minutes of your time, but those bags will help ten people who cannot afford things we take for granted like new toothbrushes and toothpaste. You can honor Martin, but helping us out, or by finding another service project to join!
