Driving is as fun as it is dangerous. We love to take our little speedsters out onto the road. We love it so much that we often completely forget about the danger and the power of putting pedal to the metal. Just think for a moment about what you’re doing when you’re driving a car. You’re traveling at speeds exceeding sixty miles per hour which puts your braking distance in between five and ten meters. And what do you have to protect you? Nothing but the equivalent of a whoopie cushion and two lines of material. Driving is a crazy experience that has simply been accepted as part of society. Let’s look at some other weird facts about the roads.
Driving Is Dangerous
Due to what we just told you, this probably isn’t news. In fact, most people are casually aware of driving dangers; they just tend to ignore them. You shouldn’t though because you don’t want to be added onto this rather worrying statistic. Over a million people die on the road each year. Now, you might think those are quite good odds, particularly when you take into account all the different countries. You shouldn’t forget though that this doesn’t include the people who are injured or hurt on the roads.
Speed Tickets Are A Myth
Well not quite but you’ve got a pretty good chance of never being caught by one, even if you are speeding. The reason? First, a speed camera won’t record someone for going over the speed limit. You need to be exceeding the speed limit at a high enough point that it’s viewed as dangerous. Or, recorded at an accelerating speed by a camera. If you want, you can try this yourself. Find a patch of road with average speed cameras of fifty. Travel at an average speed of fifty-seven and you won’t get a speeding ticket passing through a camera. We can’t guarantee this will be the same if you’re caught by a police officer speeding, though. Although, we can guarantee if they don’t stop you then and there, you won’t receive a ticket later. Officers have to catch people speeding at the time that they spot it. That’s why they race through traffic after a speeding driver. If they get away, they are in the clear.
Time Does Slow Down
You might have thought that the idea that time slows down in an accident is a fallacy. Interestingly, though, it isn’t. Perceptually, time does slow down when you’re involved in a car accident. This is because adrenaline pumps through your body as you experience the event. This causes your brain to function at faster speeds than typical. It’s why crash victims often have a completely clear understanding of what happened during the accident. This is great for car accident representation attorneys because it makes cases a lot easier to win.
Don’t Drink And Drive, Take Weed And Fly
Obviously, we’re not encouraging you to drive while under the influence of drugs. It’s Harvard that are doing that. In a recent study, they found there was no impact on smoking marijuana on driving ability. They concluded that there might be no danger to smoking weed while driving after all. Although someone we doubt they’ll be a change to that particular law anytime soon.
