Today is the day I am heading to Norway to sail the western side of Norway on the Europa 2. This will be my first time in Norway well the whole Scandinavia region as a matter of fact. Scandinavia is made up of Finland, Norway and Sweden. It is a historical and cultural region in Northern Europe.
I am going to be spending the next 6 nights on the Europa 2. Europa 2 is a cruise ship operated by Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, a German-based cruise line. She has been sailing around the world since May 2013, and has since been named the number-one cruise ship in the world by the Berlitz Guide to Cruising & Cruise Ships. Europa 2 never repeats the same itinerary so you can basically sail just about anywhere on her.
So here is break down on how my first 2 days have been going.
Monday, July 4th:
I did the most un-American thing to do on July 4th and flew over to Norway. I left my hometown airport at noon and first flew to Chicago, which was a 38 minute flight. Had a bit to eat on my layover before flying to London. I left Chicago at 4:30pm and got to London at 7:30 the next day.
Travel Tip: Wear comfortable clothing, taking an Ambien and SLEEP! Pick a seat far from the bathroom and skip the in flight movie to help you sleep better.
Tuesday, July 5th:
Well, now I am in London with a few hour layover. I landed in Heathrow with is a HUGE airport and I had to be bused from terminal 5 to 3 then back through security. I am half asleep so I grabbed a coffee and croissant. I love traveling to Europe for the croissants, I never eat them in America.
Next flight is to Oslo, Norway about 2 hours and I slept some more. I loved the Oslo airport it seems very modern if I remember correctly. After landing it took us about 43 minutes to get to the cruise port where the Europa 2 had already been docked. This cruise actually started in Keil 2 days ago, so docked the night of the 4th in Oslo. I am pretty jealous of the passengers who got to export Oslo. It looks like an amazing city.
I checked into my amazing balcony suite, which I will write about later then headed to the Europa 2 bridge to meet the captain and sail off. It was a once in a lifetime experience. They make it look so easy to sail the Europa 2. The view from the bridge was amazing.
So now we are sailing in the Atlantic Ocean around the bottom of Norway on our way to Eidfjord, Norway. Tomorrow we will be at sea exploring the ship and catching up on my sleep. You can follow me on social media using #Europa2.
Have a good day everyone!
Ps: sorry if there are typos I am exhausted 🙂
